Biblical Counseling
Biblical Counseling Online
Biblical counseling done well does not force a choice between Scripture and professional competence. Edifi counselors are trained in both and know how to hold the tension with integrity.
Our approach
How Edifi approaches biblical counseling
01
Scripture as genuine resource, not corrective
Biblical counseling at Edifi means Scripture is engaged seriously as a guide to human flourishing — not deployed as a corrective against the client or a substitute for professional judgment.
02
Credentialed without exception
Biblical counseling orientation does not replace professional training. Edifi counselors hold AACC, ACBC, or equivalent certification. Many also hold state clinical licenses (LMFT, LCSW, LPC). Both are required.
03
Referral-aware
Mental health conditions with neurological components — depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, ADHD — respond to clinical treatment and sometimes require medication. Our counselors are trained to recognize when referral to a prescriber is appropriate.
04
Theologically diverse
Our counselors understand Reformed, evangelical, and other biblical counseling traditions. They can work within your tradition without requiring you to adopt theirs.

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
- Is biblical counseling the same as CCEF-style nouthetic counseling?
- CCEF (Christian Counseling and Education Foundation) is one prominent biblical counseling institution. Edifi counselors may draw on CCEF frameworks as well as clinical and theological approaches from other traditions. We are not affiliated with CCEF, and our counselors are not exclusively nouthetic in approach.
- Is biblical counseling effective?
- The effectiveness of any counseling depends on the counselor's training, the therapeutic relationship, and the fit of the approach to the presenting issue. Edifi's biblical counseling counselors hold AACC, ACBC, or equivalent certification and are trained in evidence-based methods alongside scriptural frameworks.
- Should I choose biblical counseling or standard professional counseling?
- The choice depends on what you are seeking. If clinical diagnosis and evidence-based protocol are your primary concerns, standard professional counseling may be the better fit. If deep theological integration alongside clinical care is important to you, biblical counseling from a certified counselor is a strong option.
- Can biblical counseling treat clinical conditions like OCD or depression?
- Yes, when delivered by a certified counselor trained in evidence-based methods. Biblical counseling orientation does not prevent the use of validated clinical techniques. Edifi counselors integrate Scripture and evidence-based practice rather than treating them as alternatives.
